opportunity, using the same tactics they used to practically destroy the Convention Center, the same tactics they used when they followed Sam Katz around to every campaign stop, the same intimidation and greedy attitude and lack of diplomacy that they have used so many times before in ways that have not benefited Philadelphia. Thank you, Melani, I couldn't have expressed it better myself. Karen Allen

<< Surely, you don't think that a group with a name like "Young Involved

Baltimore
Avenue Corridor Project hosted by Eli Masser, and presentations on historic
designation of Philadelphia neighborhoods by John Gallery, has anything but
contempt for the great unwashed masses concerned with (ugh) union jobs. This
is
"YIP" as in "YIPPIE.">>
Young Involved Philadelphians has also been involved with trying to promote
tax reform in Philadelphia, certainly a worthwhile cause, Al, and one which
both you and I support. When Mayor Street wanted to do away with the (minuscule)
annual drop in wage taxes a couple of years ago, YIP was out there marching
around City Hall with the rest of us. They could be hanging out in martini
bars enjoying themselves - isn't theirs supposed to be a self-centered, selfish
generation? - but instead, they are taking responsibility for this city. They
are future leaders and movers and shakers. My hat is off to them - and by the
way, Al, wasn't that an ad hominem attack you made?!?
How many of you writing pro-union propaganda on this list actually HIRE union
workers yourselves? In all of the queries for contractors I've read on this
list, I've never heard anybody make "union" one of the qualifications they
were looking for. And the names recommended - by Al, by me, by the rest of you -
have certainly NOT been union companies. So who are we - any of us - to
fault the producers of Real World?
Look, I've never watched this show, and I don't think I'd like it, but I
think some people are missing a point: here was a job opportunity for
Philadelphians - not UNION Philadelphians, but Philadelphians, nonetheless, including our
non-union list neighbor Pete Coyle. And the union thugs took away that
opportunity, using the same tactics they used to practically destroy the Convention
Center, the same tactics they used when they followed Sam Katz around to
every campaign stop, the same intimidation and greedy attitude and lack of
diplomacy that they have used so many times before in ways that have not benefited
Philadelphia. Today, YIP had a good idea - let it be known that everyone is not
supportive of such tactics! I'm just sorry I didn't read about this protest
in time to join them.
