Spruce Hill group wins Scotts prize
The Spruce Hill Community Association in West Philadelphia has been
named one of four national winners in the Scotts Give Back to Grow
Awards.
The awards were announced at a Philadelphia Green brunch at the
Convention Center on Sunday, the final day of the Philadelphia Flower
Show, whose proceeds benefit urban-greening programs.
The Spruce Hill association received $5,000 for winning "Scotts
Community Beautification Gardener of the Year" honors. Since 1999, its
members have volunteered countless hours to beautify and strengthen
their community by planting and maintaining street trees, reducing
storm-water runoff,
and increasing water permeability through the creation of lawns and
front-yard gardens.
