Philly.com is now asking people to register with them
before you can read an article.

If you don't want to be deluged with email ads
the best thing to do is use a name that is consistently
wrong but the same. I usually register as Gil to these
types of email harvesting schemes

Then I filter any messages with Dear Gil in the subject
directly to my junk mail. I never even see them.
I use a different last name too and filter that as well.

After you read the fascinating article which Al recommended
(http://www.philly.com/mld/inquirer/news/local/states/pennsylvania/cities_neig
hborhoods/philadelphia/8347925.htm)

turn to http://rossbender.org/mennostuff.html

"It was large and fancy" for the story of First Mennonite Church in
Philadelphia, which has a historical trajectory similar to that of Mary Elizabeth
Patterson and probably a much larger number of church buildings in the city.
