Friends and Neighbors -

REMINDER THAT THE PLANT SALE PREORDER DEADLINE IS SATURDAY MAY 1st - THE PLANT SALE IN CLARK PARK IS SATURDAY THE 8th.

Tree Planting impromtu at the street by the Swim Club Saturday May 1st - 9 am till whenever - Hanson St. - between Pine and Spruce at 48/49th if you want to help out.

The Rooster will soon be back at the University City Garden Club's garden
at 44th and Locust St. See www.home.earthlink.net/~ucgc for some before
and after photos. The apartment building that was on the site collasped in
1932 due to foundation issues involving Mill Creek. In 1959 the then
Spruce Hill Garden Club fenced in the vacant lot and began gardening there.

Now an established perennial garden it has been in need of an
infrastructure overhaul for a few years. The trees have been getting
bigger and the percentage of sun to shade in different areas of the garden
has changed through the years. Last year the fence was replaced with black
vinyl coated chain link after a car damaged it.

In the fall of 2003 a committed group began digging and sculpting the
former lawn area in preparation for new paths and bed layouts. In April
the stone was delivered and the paths are now in place along with a zen
garden. Grass has been seeded and should be sprouting any day. The
rooster will return to the top of the new signpost after the plant sale.

This garden is funded through the annual May Fair Plant Sale in Clark Park
(43rd and Baltimore Ave) - Saturday May 8th from 11-4.

Volunteers work at
this garden on Friday evenings from 6-8pm -anybody is welcome to join in or
stop by for a look.
