I was talking with the SHCA "Membership Chair" last night about the different community groups I have signed up for at some point in the five years that I have been here in Philly.
UCD, UCHS, SHCA, FOCP, WPD, UCAL, etc. A big problem has been remembering to sign-up again each year. I thought to myself, "wouldn't it be great if some organization in the community offered a one-stop way to sign-up for community group memberships each year." Instead of every neighborhood group trying to get out information about themselves separately, they could work together. Each year, one group could use a shared database to send out renewal notices, coordinate mailing lists and get information out about all the good that is going on in this neighborhood. Maybe even a consolidated membership form â one check to cover all the memberships. The group managing the database could parse out the membership money as it comes in. There may be some overhead, but wouldn't it be great if some grant money could be found that covers "community empowerment" or "community organization?" Comments?
