All kidding aside, I did not support the city funding the ballpark or it being located in S. Phila. I believe that last month the Federal Reserve Bank published a report indicating that ballparks are worthwhile economic engines. I will try to find the report for you.

That is the same report used to justify the Keystone Opportunity Zones declaration that 17th and JFK Boulevard is a blighted neighborhood... just because its a vacant lot!

I challenge the Federal Reserve and the Economists in the audience to come up with the money that they claim is generated by these subsidies -- it would be more than enough to balance this years City budget ... if even just half of the report were true!

It's like companies who claim to be profitable, but don't make quite enough profits to pay dividends to their shareholders -- it's amazing what you can do with numbers on paper.

Or the Real Estate sales folks who claim that your monthly mortgage payment will only be X-dollars "after taxes" ... but somehow can't get the mortgage company to accept that X-dollars number as their monthly payment.

At least Car salesman asks you how much you can afford to pay each month up front, then tells you how many years you will be indentured to them aftewards.
