Wilma:

I fail to understand what in the posting that you replied to caused you to
assume that the poster permits her children to "play in the driveways next
to Sam's Place." To the contrary, all Julia stated was that the "kids and I
love going to Sam's, even if they don't have exactly the item we're there to
buy." Nothing about driveway, nothing about playing.

Am I missing something here?

With all due respect, I sincerely hope that you do not allow your children
to play in the driveways next to Sam's Place.

People sometimes forget that this is exactly like allowing one's children to
run around and run up and down the front porches of Victorian houses in the
neighborhood, without the owner's consent.

Doors are kicked, doorbells are rung, sometimes trash and leaves are put
into the houses through the mail slots.

Would people with front porches like that? I sincerely doubt it. Yet
people often behave as if the property owner is intruding when we try to
enter and exit our homes.

Also, the assumption of liability by the owner if children get injured on
the properties is a factor. There are electrical wires for outdoor lighting
and other hazards especially with children climbing the walls and if you're
trying to pull in or out with your car.

If you want to allow your children to play there or if you know someone who
does, wouldn't you agree that the owners should at least be consulted or
asked?

Just my two cents.
