It would seem to be so...

We had two plants stolen from our porch last week, one at night, followed by
the second that afternoon (apparently a matching pair must have been
requested), while the house was occupied.

A neighbor was mugged by two men near 45th and Pine and kicked repeatedly in
the head ever after giving up her wallet.

On Saturday night, we heard gunshots from what appeared to be two cars
following each other either on our street (4600 block of Larchwood) or very
nearby.

I can understand that stuff happening over in the wild wild west of Kyle's
neighborhood but not near/on one of "UC's most desirable blocks" (as my
block is frequently referred to in real estate promotional materials).

You know how it is, when the weather turns warm, a man's thoughts turn to
theft and violence.

Subject: [UC] is the neighborhood getting more dangerous, or am i just
spending more time weeding out front?

in any event. christy and i were standing out front on thursday (weeding the
front yard) when three bike cops ride past shouting "person with a gun!
person with a gun!" and before i know it, they'd jumped off of their bikes
and tackled this kid, not four houses down from us, pulled a gun from his
waistband, stuffed him in a squad car, and made off with him. he looked like
he was about 12

And last night, sunday, around 10:30 p.m. Sky runs upstairs to say that two
men had been stacking cinderblocks under our window, i guess to try and
climb in, but she and a bunch of her friends who had observed them from
downstairs had run outside and shouted at them, at which point the two guys
ran off.

I've been here at the same address for ten years, I used to think it was
dangerous, and then I thought it got a lot safer, and now ... Perhaps just
anticdotally, with these armed robberies at 40th and locust in broad
daylight, it seems to be getting a lot more dangerous .....
