I just wrote about a similar issue in my other post. We as a community have lost a sense of community, and shared responsibility. I can sympathize with the person who said they were afraid of approaching the vendor outside the Sunoco.
I regularly watch kids play on the unfinished equipment at Clark Park accompanied by their parents. I don't say anything, because I know that the parents will probably react negatively. No matter how I approach the subject. I have been yelled at by parents when I have asked their kids to pick up the trash they are throwing on the curb in front of my home. My wife has been threatened by another parent when she has tried to protect our son from getting hit by another child. When I was growing up, the families on my street watched each others kids. If I was chastized by another family for doing something wrong I listend for fear that it would get back to my parents. We don't know each other. We don't associate with people outside our small groups. There is an underlying issue of race and class that makes interaction in our neighbor hood more difficult. In my mind this is what leads to most of the problems with communication, health and saftey. I don't want to blather on. bga In a message dated 6/24/2004 5:54:36 PM Eastern Daylight Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: > The local beat cop, or UCD safety ambassador, doesn't have to "act > like a cop" to be an asset to the neighborhood.
