Now that's a story!!! Had you smelled anything over the past week or so --
something like, say, a decaying body?

Subject: [UC] police blotter public record?

So, last night I'm minding my own business, watching Horror of Dracula on
t.v. and at the critical moment when Van Helsing finally confronts the fiend
with a pair of candlesticks chasing him towards the approaching sun, I hear
a sound very much like the sound I would expect to be made by a pair of
clydesdales dragging a referigerator up my staircase. Startled, I run to the
stairs to see what's making the noise only to realize it's coming from the
other side of my semi-detached -- or rather -- the house next door with
which I share a wall. I also notice at this time that there are several fire
trucks and numerous police cars parked out front. There is a knot of maybe
five firemen standing on the steps in front of my house. Concerned, I step
outside and ask the firemen if there's a fire.

"No fire," one of them says, "please go back inside."

So I go back inside and watch from the window as a rivulet of policemen
begins to pour into the house next door like leaf cutter ants and a group of
about seven more hurry down the alley on the far side. This is followed by a
fireman carrying a sledge hammer and a very heavy bag. After a minute,
there's a teriffic pounding that shakes the house. Police leave the alley,
go inside the house, police leave the house, back into the alley. Fireman
goes down the alley with a huge crowbar. More pounding, glasses clinking in
the cabinets. Soon there's a group of policepersons gathered on my front
steps, more pounding. I step back outside and overhear one of the policemen
say "I can't believe none of the neighbors reported this!" Then they turn to
me.

"Can you tell me what's going on?" I ask.

"Nothing for you to be concerned about," one of them says, "please go back
inside."

So I go back inside, finish watching Horror of Dracula, pounding continues
along the side of the house. Eventually everybody drives away.

How do I find out what the heck was going on? Does the UCPD print a blotter?
What event taking place next to my house could be so evil and nefarious
nobody will tell me what it is?
