This wouldn't be Kerry's fault. Not only does he have to fix the damage caused by the Bush administration (colossal debt, a war with no foreseeable end, loss of interational support, a flailing economy), he'll have to do it while facing a legislative and judicial branch dominated by the Republicans. And as history shows, the Republicans are driven and unscrupulous party that will stop at nothing to ensure that Kerry fails, even at the expense of the rest of the country. Health care proposals will die in committee, while Republican spokesmen will denounce them as socialism. The war in Iraq will never get the support it needs, because now, a loss would be a Democratic loss. Kerry's efforts to re-balance the budget will be met with strong and vociferous opposition, as Republicans will completely refuse to allow any increases of taxation on the wealthy or corporations. Any Court nominees that Kerry makes will, like those of Clinton, be held up by the judiciary committees for years. And there is always the spectre of some pseudoscandal, which will burden the Executive Branch with hours of testimony, nonsensical questions, and excessive legal bills while some Federalist Society-born "investigator" flings more and more filth at the man. Wouldn't surprise me if they try to throw war-crimes charges against Kerry, either. If FDR or LBJ was facing odds like that, I wouldn't bet even money on them. ---- You are receiving this because you are subscribed to the list named "UnivCity."
