If you're talking about the $35 alarm license fee, I'm sure you know that
is not to pay for the cost of answering your alarm. I think its to provide
information on who you are so that they have a responsible party to collect a
fine from when you create too many false alarms.
I hope that all of us with alarms understand that aside from driving our
neighbors nuts (and we have done this at our house - sorry to those who have
heard it), false alarms do consume police time and cost the city money. When
they are investigating your false alarm, they are not available for other
dispatches, other than top priority emergencies. Indeed, some "unfounded"
dispatches could account for slow responses when you really need them.
And I agree that I would be more worried about my alarm company taking 15
minutes to respond than the police taking a few hours. The cops probably have
an excuse. What does the alarm company say?
