since i've been in philly, i've been hit by cars three time while riding my bike. the first time i got "rear view mirrored" in the back by a pickup truck while riding in the bike lane on walnut street (actually, now that i think of it, each time was on walnut street) the second time i wasn't actually riding, i'd pulled over to the side of the road and was still on my bike with my feet on the ground in a "parking spot" getting ready to pump some air in my back tire when a guy pulled up quickly and backed up to park in the spot. i yelled, he kept backing up, hit me, i jumped off the bike and he ran it over. He was very apologetic and helped me bend my wheel back into a shape resembling round so I could get it back to the bike line. the third time was just this summer, i was in the bike lane around 37th and a taxi passed me on the left, then quickly turned right and stopped at the corner about 10 feet in front of me, blocking the bike lane at a 45' angle to let a passenger out. she and i had a brief "meeting of the eyes" moment of horror before i collided with the side of the taxi.
