I can't speak for DTV but Sam is correct about DN.  The practical effect is
that if you are recording a live program, you can't simultaneously watch one
live program while recording another.  You can, however, record one live
program while watching a previously recorded one.  I haven't found that
limitation to be particularly bothersome.  DN does offer its own PVR which
is essentially a VCR that records onto a hard drive. I don't know anything
about its functionality beyond that detailed on the DN website.  It is isn't
TIVO.

To make the DirecTivo even more appealing: it has two satellite connection
inputs.  This is so that it can record two live channels simultaneously
whereas I believe the Tivo/Dish Network setup can only record one live
channel at a time.
