No!  If it's a CRT monitor, it has a few pounds of lead in it.  If
it's a newer LCD monitor, it has mercury in it.  Either way, if it
winds up in a landfill, it's bad news.

Recycling or donating your old monitor is the way to go.  But, in
choosing a recycling company, it probably makes sense to ask what they
actually do with the monitor after you pay them to take it.  Many
(most?) so-called recycling companies actually just ship the dangerous
parts of the monitor over to Guiyu, China or some other place where we
can hide our e-waste.  See, for example:
