well, yours is certainly a familiar email address. In
regard to asking age, etc., I think anyone has a right
to refuse to answer any questions they choose, but
doing so can impede the breaking down of stereotypical
discriminations. We are already/still are an
inappropriately pro-youth/"age-ist" society, and
keeping mum about reality simply allows people to hold
on to their ignorance a little more easily. I would
like to believe that with age comes wisdom, unless you
are determined to remain at a more immature state
regardless of your chronological age. Put another
way, age should be *celebrated*, not hidden. The fact
that you make a point that it is somehow inappropriate
to ask a woman's age, implying that (by contrast) it
*is* appropriate to ask a man's age, I find flatly
sexist. Yes, we live in a sexist society, but you
don't have to reinforce it. Such sexist attitudes
will fall out of fashion eventually, in any case, when
we become more a culture of knowledge, and less one of
"appearances"...
