The rules concerning malaria are NOT the rules I meant. I have never Been to sub Saharan Africa.
Where overseas residence is involved, they have a long list of countries. Some of these are European, including the UK, where I lived for years. One is Turkey, where I spent a lot of time. You have to total up the entire amount of time spent living in these Countries. If the total goes even one day over the limit, you are Disqualified. This is why I can no longer donate. I was disqualified On this basis the last time I showed up to donate after they had Suddenly shortened the time period. -----Original Message----- From: Crissie [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, February 21, 2005 11:31 AM To: Mayer, Ann; [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [email protected] Subject: RE: check rules about living overseas - Blood Drive - Saturday March 5, 10 AM - 3 PM : The overseas rule does not sound too stringent: http://www.redcross.org/services/biomed/0,1082,0_557_,00.html#trav Travel Outside of U.S., Immigration Wait 12 months after travel in an area where malaria is found. If you have spent some years Outside the USA, be sure to check what the current Rules are (they keep changing the rules and making it harder for Those with histories of overseas residence to donate) so you don't waste your time trying to donate when they will tell you are disqualified. Although I am more than willing and used to Donate my type O positive blood on a regular basis, I am now Disqualified since they decided a few years ago to shorten the length of time spent overseas that would preclude any blood donations. (After disqualifying me, they keep calling, begging me to donate. They Want that blood type, but will not actually allow me to give it to them.) Ann Mayer 4312 Pine Donors must be in good health and should be over age 18. (They can be as young as 17 with parental permission.) AND THEY CANNOT HAVE LIVED TOO LONG OUTSIDE THE USA -- CHECK THE RULES FIRST!! The Blood Drive will be held in the Auditorium of St. Francis de Sales on Saturday March 5, 2005 from 10 AM - 3 PM. The Red Cross is making appointments, to help prevent waste of donor time.
