Then there is Route 1 -- now technically Roosevelt Boulevard.

Actually, Roosevelt Boulevard predates any of the modern namings of roads after people. The road was mapped out to provide access to the new residential neighborhoods being developed on the farmlands of Northeast Philadelphia, and was originally named Northeast Boulevard. It was renamed in 1919 for Theodore Roosevelt after he died that year.

All of these postings about naming Streets, Drives, Avenues, etc. after people. Do any of you remember, or care, about the renaming of Delaware Avenue after the evil (in so many ways) Christopher Columbus?

Yep! It happened in 1992 to celebrate 500 years. 13 years later, people still refer to it as Delaware Avenue although it is called Columbus Boulevard in every map.

Another recent name change was the East River Drive ... now technically Kelly Drive;
around the same time Lincoln Drive, became "Wissahickon Drive." (Wissahickon Drive used to end at Wissahickon avenue.)

Then there is Route 1 -- now technically Roosevelt Boulevard.
