I think it's great to support local businesses, but I think it's also fair for list members to share positive experiences they have had with "outsiders" as well. We used a buyer's agent from Prudential (Ray Petralia) who is not from UC, but we had a great experience with him and would not hesitate to recommend him to others.
Ditto with contractors, restaurants, etc. When someone asks for recommendations, people should not be afraid to share positive/negative and/or local/non-local experiences--then the original inquirer gets as much info as possible to make his or her decision.
