In light of the recent discussion of city council ethics, it is being reported today, that Surprise! several members of council may not be adhering to the law. Our local rep, Jannie Blackwell, possible mayoral candidate, was questioned but did not return calls.

Remember bill 629? Local anti-billboard law? Remember UCCC meeting where Blackwell and Carl Primavera, lawyer in favor of the bill, attended and all the attendees except Primavera were in favor, and Jannie voted in favor, siding with Primavera? He contributed to her coffers.

"Several City Council members are dodging an existing state law that requires them to identify the occupation and employer of major campaign donors."

"The biggest offenders in Council last year were Jannie Blackwell, Juan Ramos and Jack Kelly. In the cases of Ramos and Kelly, it appears that they and their campaign accountants misunderstood the disclosure requirement and failed to identify the business affiliations of any contributors."

"Blackwell, a veteran Council member who suggests she might run for mayor in 2007, did not return calls. She collected $93,250 last year from 79 donors she described only as "business person," failing to identify the name or nature of their businesses."

"Blackwell also listed a $5,000 contribution last October from an individual who was not identified at all. "NOT legible," says the notation in her campaign finance reports. "Researching name and address."
