An alternative to putting your tree into a landfill is to just put it in
your backyard until spring. It provides nice cover for birds in times
of inclement weather, and the needles will fall off and provide nice
compost for your soil. You can also decorate it.
You can then drop it off at the recycling center in the spring, where it
will be mulched and composted.

I called the Streets Department because the website doesn't say what they are
going to do with the trees. I was told that 63rd Street is the only
location from which the trees will be recycled. Apparently all other drop-off
sites are just gathering locations before they landfill the trees with the
garbage.
