MessageSharrieff,

You can play the Great White Father all you like, but revealing what other
people say to you in private is really lacking in all manner of ethics. How
strange that someone so steeped in ethical consideration should be so lacking
in it himself. You did this recently within the last year with someone else on
the list without permission. And what is worse is that you reveal by taking
whatever was written out of context. How sad.

  Subject: [UC] Public Safety

I have received a varied set of private comments in response to the public
safety post.
Based on feedback, it seems many people in our community are concerned about
what they believe is a rise in crime incidents and clearly confused about
what they can
  do to reduce crime incidents.

I did receive a few negative comments which are typical and to be expected on
this listserv.
Here is my favorite one so far:

  >>"you are begging the question. no one with any sense approaches something
thinking
they are going to make a difference. At least, not that phrase. It is used
too often to
  hornswoggle and con people" >>

Don't we all want to make a difference in our community in some way..even if
it is a small
  contribution?

I am learning that people can't react when there is no plan and they are
unsure about what to do.

Why would someone think they couldn't make a difference in preventing crime?
Have we been
  reduced to feeling powerless?

  S
