You are correct..not totally sincere. But at the risk of opening another round of debates on gun control, I find the proliferation of guns truly amazing. I knew that a certain classification of immigration groups were not permitted to purchase or possess a gun, but I did not know, as Kyle pointed out that individuals with green cards can after 90 days. My point was that mayyybe it should have been harder for this young man to get a gun? But that was irrelevant, as the gentleman arrested turns out to be Korean-American. So therefore he, like me, another Asian-American, could have obtained one with ease. How comforting..
That people feel the need to have guns ..and furthermore feel the need to defend the ownership of guns by ANYONE really puzzles me. In Philadelphia, I can see no good coming from the ownership of a gun, let alone a semi-automatic as this young man had. So.my colleague decided to poll her class one night few years ago (class full of adult students) as to how many students owned a gun. She was stunned to find out that the majority of students owned one, and were willing to show her right then and there. Of course possession of a gun is prohibited at my college and grounds for disciplinary action. She never asked that question again. I feel positive that any conversation that you might have with a citizen of another country will produce an earful on the crazy proliferation of guns in this country. We are way out of sync with the rest of the civilized (and not civilized) world... _____ From: SKnight [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, February 01, 2007 2:06 PM To: Theresa; [email protected] Subject: Re: [UC] gun regulation Theresa, Your question appears to be disingenuous, if not downright coy. I thought I heard the location as 45th near pine. Channel 10 seemed to interpret events along lines of racial paranoia compounded by some mental illness. According to the News Report Two "Indians" were discussing their studies (I think it was something with biomedical applications) with a Penn law Student. When the PLS realized the DSs would be taking their education back home to India, he interpreted their studies as a form of espionage and determined to stop the export of American education-technology. He left, (to get his gun). One of the Drexel students went to school. The Penn student came back to their apartment. The remaining Drexel student would not open the door to someone who was enraged and appeared crazy. The Penn student tried to shoot his way in while the Drexel student locked himself in an inner bedroom, in the closet, until Police arrived. Not mentioned was the last visible color of the Fruit of the Looms. I know I don't want guns in the hands of children. Now I'm thinking of limits (or not) on guns in the hands of Lawyers and law students. Best!
