For those of you who haven't attended a mayoral forum yet, I can't recommend it too strongly! Philadelphia is undergoing a truly remarkable five-way race for new leadership in the Democratic primary May 15, and each of the principals -- Bob Brady, Dwight Evans, Chaka Fattah, Tom Knox and Michael Nutter -- has a plausible chance to be elected. They represent clear choices in personality, approach and constituent base and they are spewing policy options like five volcanoes. None of them can be easily dismissed as incompetent or corrupt and each represents a force to be dealt with.
I've never seen an election as complex and unpredictable as this one in any jurisdiction; it happens once in a blue moon. Mayoral forums like this one give you a vivid chance to see how these men address the city's issues in an intimate setting. Dozens of them have been scheduled by all sorts of neighborhood and special-interest groups. Most people come away from one saying they found it fascinating. Don't wait for the TV show; catch this act live, and soon. If youa re a registered Democrat, you'll be glad you did -- and even Republicans and Democrats who care about politics are curious spectators at these events. -- Tony West ----- Original Message ----- From: Freda Egnal To: uclist Sent: Monday, March 12, 2007 12:27 PM Subject: [UC] West Philly Mayoral Forum March 15th You are cordially invited to meet the Candidates for Mayor and Other City Offices Thursday, March 15, 2007 7:00 pm 3801 Market Street Sponsored by the West Philadelphia Democratic Club ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Looking for earth-friendly autos?
