Hey, everybody, "My" backyard is has a lot of dead wood, much of it of the branch and twig variety, which isn't doing anyone any good. If it weren't surrounded by trees, powerlines, other houses, and combustible materials like wooden fencing, the obvious solution would be to burn it off. As it is, to do so would put the entire neighborhood at risk.
I have heard rumors of the Fairmount Park Comission having some sort of wooden chipping/recycling/mulch program, where they haul this stuff away for free. Has anyone heard about this? A specific website, email, or even phone number would be helpful. I might research this later, but I thought some-one on the listserv might know right offhand. Also, in a related matter, if any of you folks with fireplaces or wood stoves are getting ready to clean them out for Spring, I would be willing to take a gallon or two of wood ashes off your hands (the compostable mix I have is acidic, useful for growing green stuff, but not "fruit" such as tomatoes, hence the desire for alkali to balance the Ph). Thanks! Jed. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Expecting? Get great news right away with email Auto-Check. Try the Yahoo!
