They noticed my name because they knew it already, because I work with
politicians all the time. They do not work with Wilma all the time or with
you all the time. Wilma does not go to news events; neither do you. So these
guys don't meet you and talk with you. Which part of this do you find hard
to grasp?
It's none of my business why "UCD folks" on UC-list don't write posts. But I
have noted before that no organized body, with one exception (FoCP), posts
official statements to UC-list. It is an unmoderated list, which makes it
worthless as a publication of record.
You yourself, after all, are the best-known professional "Penn folks" poster
on UC-list. So why doesn't Penn just utilize YOU to set the record straight
every time somebody keypunches the word "Penn" on UC-list, so you can post
Penn's official response? Apparently, it's not your business to do so.
Perhaps, then, it is not the business of UC-list subscribers who work for
UCD to do so either.
Since unmoderated lists permit unscrupulous, dishonest individuals to post
an unending stream of intentionally deceitful
"Have-you-stopped-beating-your-wife?" questions, it is hard for any
organization to respond to them. If they answer just one question, a serial
liar at the other end can whip up another stream of insincere
interrogatories as you have just done below. That would would create great
job opportunities for PR workers, but would bankrupt a lot of bodies without
accomplishing anything for society as a whole.
Yet suppose, having answered a few of your silly questions, UCD eventually
got sick of it and refused to continue ... then it would implicitly concede
the last lie you posted was somehow valid, simply because it had grown weary
of refuting you. It's a poison pill. So the smartest thing is for all
ongoing organizations to ignore you, all the time. Unfortunately, that means
ignoring UC-list as a whole.
Toy is in a different situation. He's running for office and he needs to get
his word out. So I gave him a hand.
As for me, I am permanently in the position of trying to figure out what
happened at events I didn't attend. Another word for this is "Life". There
is a methodology for this. It's plain you don't know it.

once again tony west raises more questions than he answers. for example,
how did the toy campaign people hear about the posting on uclist in the
first place? why did they notice tony's name in particular? did they
notice wilma's name? did they contact her? why didn't the ucd folks
already subscribed to the list publicly set the record straight for ucd?
wendell would be the obvious person to say publicly what he said and
didn't say that evening. has he done so? when? where? if tony west was not
at the event he wouldn't know, firsthand, what was said and not said, and
he wouldn't know what people there may or may not have heard and perceived
as an endorsement. he would, in fact, be among the least reliable persons
to 'set the record straight.' why then would he volunteer for the toy
campaign to do so?
etc. etc.
what tony west fails to appreciate here is that neither himself nor
wendell nor toy have confirmed (adequately, publicly) that no endorsement
was made or implied. and that even when they attempt to do so, there will
always be speculation in people's minds, even if there was none to begin
with ('why this need for denial?' people will ask themselves. 'what is
ucd's connection with toy?').
this is why the voteandytoy posting is brilliant, in its way. if wendell
and toy can appear at a public event and make an impression without having
to take responsibility for what people perceive, then an anonymous
voteandytoy can appear on a public list and make an impression without
having to take responsibility for what people perceive. the voteandytoy
posting is a virtual foil to wendell and toy's appearance at the dock
street celebration, and places them in an interesting bind: to act, or not
to act?
