Re: [UC] sorry folksI agree, Glenn. You owe Tony and anyone else you accused
of lying and race-baiting a serious, personal apology. Not just a retraction.

Kimm,

I posted the contact information for the police Sergeant who revealed the
misinformation . He authorized this because the police acknowledge being the
source of the serious misinformation. I received an apology and the Sergeant
felt this authorization would allow any list member to confirm that I was a
directed messenger of misinformation and not the source.

I documented in detail my efforts to get to the truth of this incident as
events occurred. My comments were all made after a good faith attempt to find
the truth and based on my believe that this was conclusively a serious hoax. I
reported at the time the important step of asking explicitly; is there any
possibility of a police error?

The community affairs officer told me that I could safely report to the list
that the car jacking was a hoax.

With that assurance, I too believed it was an important thing to do. Had it
been a hoax; my comments too would be seen much differently. Again, I retract
and regret to everyone all incorrect comments based on the serious but false
information.

Not that I might not have other mistakes to acknowledge or direct apologies to
make, but I feel at this time my correction of the known misinformation and
retraction and regrets for my incorrect comments are appropriate. All of my
efforts to support my reports could be debated or researched if anyone chooses.
I supported my accusations with false information, which I sincerely believed
to be true at the time. When I discovered the false portion of information, I
immediately retracted all comments based on the belief in it.

I want to follow -up on the many police issues which have come up and I've
reported the car jacking incident to several newspapers. I am a bit overwhelmed
but I have no intention of not acknowledging all mistakes and making apologies
when appropriate.

Kimm and list, I decided to look into this report because of my suspicions of
Mr. West's original post. I now know that something happened that evening which
I've confirmed publicly. The police continue to maintain that that original
report is not accurate, but acknowledge something happened.

This is a very important issue at this time as far as I am concerned.

If the original post contains only partial truth, I would go back to that post
as a real starting point for this affair. The part the police deny, the last
paragraph, is what I found most suspicious prompting me to look into it. We
have a lot of issues and questions unanswered and I sincerely believe my
correction and retraction with regrets is appropriate at this time. There is a
tremendous amount of unsupported misinformation on the list and it is a good
time to discuss the issues about these crime posts and support of accusations.

Frankly, I see accusations spewing out all of the time on the list without
anything close to the good faith effort I publicly documented. Many of these
are deliberately and obviously false and never receive an apology.

I have always promised to honestly acknowledge my mistakes and I will also make
any apologies when appropriate. I know the apologies I am due will never occur.
There is an amazing double standard that exists on the list, but nevertheless I
will do what I believe to be right at the time.

Sincerely,

Glenn

      Glenn,

You have assumed the efficiency and all-knowingness of our city
departments before to back up your allegations against community members (i.e.
in the supposed collusion of the Dept. of Parks and FOCP in the removal of the
large Tulip tree in Clark Park.)

And now you want kudos for uncovering a "serious police problem."
Puh-leeze....

You have an agenda and seek incidents to prove it, attacking lots of
people in the process (including the relative of the carjacking victim who
verified the incident.) You are out of control and owe a number of people an
apology.

      Dear list,

I spent a lot of time looking for the truth on this car jacking. I am
not sorry I pursued this but I'm sorry I was the instrument of misinformation.
I certainly gave an honest account of my sources of information.

I'm glad that a serious police problem was uncovered. We don't know the
apparently disputed details of this incident and I certainly have no confidence
at this point.

I think the police information and reporting needs to be a two way
street.

      Sincerely,
      Glenn
