Just as an addition to Als email regarding the PHC meeting, for those who
are unable to attend the meeting but still want to make their feelings known
on the subject of the hotel, you can forward letters to:

I live on a pretty commercial block, and most of the time it doesnt bother
me, but commercial on my block means the 2nd Mile, Saads and Abyssinia, not
a 10-story hotel. There's nothing wrong with the hotel idea, per se, it's
just that particular location doesnt suit the purpose and also the fact
that theres been no real community discussion about it before its come to
hearing. Think how different your home would be if suddenly there was a 10
story building between you and the sun. It would change your interior
light, your garden, if you have one, there would certainly be some privacy
issues, and there would be a ton more foot traffic and parking problems
(even if Penn does provide valet service from one of their garages, not all
guests will take advantage of that; some will park on the street, decreasing
our parking spaces even more).
Since this isn't the "nice" listserv (where the hotel hasn't even been
mentioned), feel free to throw rocks, emails or opinions.

Subject: [UC] Date of PHC's Architectural Committee meeting -- correction
Date: Fri, 19 Oct 2007 08:30:54 EDT
I unintentionally inserted some ambiguity into my posting about the
Historical Commission's Architectural Committee meeting with the plans for
a 10-story
hotel at 40th & Pine.
Here's the official announcement. This is a good opportunity to help move
this lovely addition to our neighborhood forward or to stop this
destruction of
the area's visual aesthetics in its tracks. Architectural Committee
meetings
are much less intimidating than what will follow if they vote to let the
project go forward, so now's the time to be heard.
The Architectural Committee of the Philadelphia Historical Commission will
meet at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, 23 October 2007 in Room 578, City Hall. ...
The meeting is open to
the public. If you have any questions, please call the Commissionâs
staff
at 215-686-7660.
Always at your service & ready for a dialog,
Al Krigman
