Melani" Mel, I'm sure you have notified the real community about the series of "open and public forums" the community has sponsored in support of the 11-story Penn hotel. But please pass this to the censored list if its allowed. You're so involved. Dear public community listserv, The Penn Real Estate team has been testifying to city officials about the massive community support for its 11-story hotel planned to tower over 40th and Pine. The Penn team has also twice testified to city officials about a series of "open and public forums" which have been conducted for the residents of Spruce Hill by Barry Grossbach and the SHCA. Andrew confirmed, on the public listserv, the claims about "2 open and public forums" made by the team at the earlier architectural committee. Yesterday, the Penn team also testified to city officials that an additional community meeting is scheduled for next week. I will locate the public announcement in the local community newspaper and forward it to you, and Melani will keep the censored Penn list of good neighbors informed as I'm sure she has been doing for months. Ms. Stewart and the UCHS leadership will certainly inform the 500 members of the UCHS of the continuing series of "open and public forums." I'm really curious and hope some of the 500 members share their thoughts about the discussions at the previous forums, conducted over the summer, about the request to clear the way for demolition of the historic property. I'm sure at least 1 other person missed at least 1 of these forums other than me. I missed all the forums to date and had no idea how involved this community has been as an active partner with Penn, since the beginning, supporting this transformation of that dilapidated area. Hey, if the whole community has been clamoring for upscale 11-story hotels for tourists to tower over the Victorian village, the community should remember to thank Penn for its usual attention to deliberative democracy. As explained at both official proceedings, this plan is a serious hardship for the University and its clear that it is all being done for the community's benefit. I think out of gratitude, the community should ask Penn to demolish some of the nearby houses to put up a parking lot. It's not fair for the upscale residents of this 110 unit tower to fight over the nine planned parking spots. A parking tower from Pine to Baltimore would help the upscale tourists have convenient parking without being forced to turn the SUV's around. Penn is doing so much for us selfish consumers, I think that is the least we could offer. Yesterday, one of the commission members remarked to me after the meeting, that its nice to see the community so involved with this project.
