Why, yes, Ray...the "boutique" suites DO sound vaguely like dorm rooms...
And while we're on the subject of dorm rooms, let's segue back to the concept
of precedent. Specifically, remember the Penn Tower HOTEL that was built
across the street from HUP/CHOP/Children's Seashore House? Despite the need
for short term housing for the families of hospital patients, and despite the
obvious convenience of being right across the street from the hospitals, Penn
converted THAT hotel into offices. Now Penn's claiming that a hotel at 40th and
Pine is needed to fill a demand for hotel rooms for hospital visitors, while
simultaneously ignoring the fact that the demand was created by Penn's closing
of a hotel right across the street from the hospitals.
Long way of saying Penn has set a precedent for converting hotels to other uses
once they've been built... And that other use is a possible explanation for
the real reason why Penn wants it at 40th Street, instead of being on its new
Postal Lands, where there would be as much land as is needed, would be closer
to the hospitals, and would not involve fighting with the residential
neighborhood.
