I went to the brand new Vietnam Café on 47th Street for a late lunch on Saturday. I have been fighting a bad cold and hoped that one of their Vietnamese soups would be at least as good as classic chicken soup for my ailments.
I tried the chicken lemon grass soup, and I really liked it! It is on the spicy side, which I approve. After finishing it, I actually did feel I was breathing more easily, and my sinuses felt cleared up. More fun than taking cold medicine any day! I also had a side of their grape leaves, which seemed a tad dry but were nonetheless enjoyable. It's an attractive place with good service -- although since I was almost the only patron at that odd hour, I cannot vouch for how the waiters handle a full house. The music, syrupy pop vocals sung in Vietnamese, was not thrilling, but the sound level was not very high. In any case, it is a nice addition to our local dining scene. And, if you are suffering from that cold virus that is circulating right now, I recommend that chicken lemon grass soup!
