Some happy news just came across my digital transom. Please note: Haven and Sara are graduates of St. Francis de Sales Elementary School on 47th between Springfield and Baltimore. Dewitt also attended SFDS and is using his Scholarship at PENN. Imagine, coming all the way from Africa to educate children from K-20(?) right here in UC.
---------- Forwarded Message ---------- NOT ONE BUT TWO WEST CATHOLIC STUDENTS RECEIVE PRESTIGIOUS GATES MILLENNIUM SCHOLARSHIP AWARD West Catholic High School students, Haven Ogbagiorgis and Sara Ghebremariam have been awarded the prestigious Gates Millennium Scholarship Award. this scholarship was created through a $1 billion dollar grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Over 13,000 applicants applied nationwide. Only 1,000 individuals are awarded this scholarship, which assists int he development of leadership talent among minority students in the United States. This scholarship not only provides the way for college but also follows the recipient all the way through the completion of their doctorate. This is not the first time a West Catholic student has won this honor. In 2007 Dewitt Ghebremariam won this award, who is currently attending the University of Pennsylvania. Both of this year's recipients are currently narrowing their decision on which University to attend.
