Glenn,
No doubt old techniques get renamed for new consumers, e.g.
Transcendental Meditation (TM). I was practicing Walking Meditation in
Powelton Village when I felt especially vulnerable while walking. I
guess it made me aware of the way I carry myself normally while walking
in the city. It's very subtle but I think I put on a city personna so
as not to be a target for would-be muggers. (I've been mugged before
and was accosted by a group of youths while riding my bike in that
area.) That's why I said it's probably not good to practice on the
streets, but could see doing it in Clark Park or in Woodland Cemetary.

Joe,
I think this is a good answer. I learned walking meditation as part
of Theravadan Buddhism. It's probably important to live mindfully
whether sitting or walking; in the city or in a temple.
There is a branding movement for old things. Power yoga and such
names become marketing brands for older ideas and spititual practises.
I wish everyone the best in the search for minfulness through walking
meditation.

Subject: Re: [UC] walking
I used to practice mindfulness or meditative walking which I found in
one of
Tich Nat Hahn's books, Perhaps the Miracle of Mindfulness. It was a
good experience
but weird to be practiced on the city street.

Hi!
Do any of you know what chi walking is? Can you describe it on-line?
Thanks,
Muriel
