We are preparing our calendar for the coming year - our Troop 152 at St. Francis de Sales is growing and boys 11-18 are getting to go camping, hiking, swimming and cycling in lots of places outside University City. We just got back from a week at Treasure Island, a boy scout camp on an island in the middle of the Delaware River where our 16 boys earned 44 merit badges and experienced tubing, canoeing, and rock climbing besides just getting to swim in the river and play in the mud.
This coming year we could use adult volunteers - at our Wed. night meetings and/or on outings (camping, hiking, exploring, etc). We have a great group of boys and adults and substantial training useful for all walks of life (IMHO). We are going to do backpacking preparation and concentration this year. Only a few boys have packs. I am buying them from the Second Mile and refurbishing them but need more. We also need other lightweight equipment. Donations of used equipment would be appreciated. I can pick it up or you can just leave it at my house (517 Woodland Terrace) sometime. I would of course REALLY like it if people with some experience, suggestions on trips, locations, and "training" would help me out with this venture. Also (and importantly) - if you know any boys 11-18 who are interested in scouting and our - words to live by - trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent - please join us any Wednesday night from 7 p.m. to 8:30 in the auditorium at St. Francis de Sales church/school - the double green doors up the steps off the parking lot behind the church at 47th and Springfield Ave (off Baltimore Ave). If they are not in this neighborhood I can help link them up with troops in other locations. thanks, Lauren Leatherbarrow Troop 152 Committee Chair Triune District Commissioner Cradle of Liberty Council Tel: 215-386-3905 (VM, evenings and weekends) [EMAIL PROTECTED]
