Forwarded from the 48th and Chester Dog Park list: Hi everyone,
Please join us this Wednesday August 27 from 5pm-7pm for a new show of paintings that residents at Park Pleasant created with me over the course of the past 6 months. This is our second exhibition at Abbraccio. During the first show 9 residents exhibited their self- portraits (acrylic on cloth, 24"x 36").
Our upcoming exhibit will feature 15 paintings (all acrylic on cloth, 24" x 24") of staff at Park Pleasant arranged and painted by the residents: Mr. Woodford, Ms. Hildegard, Ms. Kinnard, Ms. Beal, Ms. Bell, Ms. Lee and Mr. Wright. Working once a week in six week intervals these residents (The Photo Club) first selected staff members they wanted to paint. We then invited the members in for a photo shoot. I then prepare the drawing for the residents to work on. Each week we paint a bit more, slowly allowing the images to evolve. In the end, I and some of my assistants from mural projects lightly touch up the paintings and frame them. Of course, the staff from Park Pleasant routinely come in to see how the progress is going and encourage the residents to " do a good job on [my] face". It's a real collaboration from all involved!
This is something that the group really looks forward to each week. The residents' ages range from 65 to 96. They've all given their hard work and dedication on this project, and it's been a good dialogue between residents and staff at Park Pleasant. When I started volunteering with the residents a year and a half ago, I had no idea we would keep going this long.
