There are just two weekends left to see the great performances in the local production of "Road" at the Calvary Center at 48th and Baltimore. Perhaps the subject matter -- life on the edge of desperation in the big city -- hits just a bit too close to home in this day and age, but we have all witnessed characters in this show and we can laugh and cry about them at the same time.
Chelsea Bulack makes her professional debut with stunning performances in multiple roles, her brother Jonathan does the sound, Newton Buchanan is the narrator "Scullery" and regulars in the Curio troupe round out the excellent cast. This is certainly NOT the friviolous entertainment of prime-time TV, but if you can sink yourself into real tragi-comedy, then I think you will really get your money's worth out of the current production of "Road." I am on the board of Curio Theatre, so probably I am a just a bit biased in favor of this very unusual company, but I think this is their best show yet. There's lower-prices on Thursdays, lower prices for students/seniors and lower prices if you are under 30 years old. AND ...If you don't like the show, I'll refund your money, no questions asked.
