Penn/Villanova Football at Franklin Field, Saturday Night, September 19, 7PM
Come watch Penn knock off highly ranked Villanova here in West Philly at Franklin Field. Villanova is now ranked #2 in the country after beating Temple in the Mayor's Cup game and Lehigh last weekend. Last year's Penn/Villanova game went to overtime, and most of the recent contests have been very close. The game kicks off at 7PM and Denise and I are having people over for a pre-game "tailgate" from 4PM until 6PM, giving us plenty of time to walk over to Franklin Field. I certainly do not know everyone on these University City based listservs, but we are always happy to meet neighbors that we have not met before. It always amazes me that there are people in West Philly who are sports fans but have never been to Franklin Field. I think it is one of the amenities of living here. Tickets are cheap. At $10-12 each and half price for kids, it is a much better entertainment value than a movie. It is a great place to take kids. Franklin Field is one of the great venues of college football, Penn's home since 1895 and the Eagles home field for years, many of the greatest all-time college and pro football stars have played on that turf, including myself. Also home to the Penn Relays, America's Greatest Track Meet, if you have not visited, you should. Tickets are available at the door. We cannot offer free tickets to this game, but Penn is having its Community Day at Franklin Field for the Bucknell game on October 10, and the University City Republican Committee will be receiving tickets. We may be able to give a free ticket to that game to everyone who comes to this one (if we get them in time). Frankly we can give you a free ticket to that game whether you come to this one or not, but it will be easier to get it to you. Even if you are not a football person, please stop over and share a drink and some food with us before you venture out for your preferred Saturday evening festivities. Matt Wolfe and Denise Furey J.
