Hi Susan,

We have two great resources in Philly: Schuylkill Wildlife Rehab Center (part of the Schuylkill Center, already recommended on the list), and the Philly Zoo.

See if you can get through to Schuylkill Wildlife Rehab Center by phone (Mon-Sun, 10-4, 215-482-8217,
email: [email protected] or
http://www.schuylkillcenter.org/departments/wildlife/

Philly Zoo, Children's Zoo section. They have and take care of many ducks! You can ask questions about wildlife at the this email: http://www.philadelphiazoo.org/participate/ask-an-expert.htm
main phone: 215-243-1100

I wouldn't recommend going to the vet school, unless the above organizations advise you to.

Best of luck, and do let us know what happens!! It's great that folks care enough about life in the pond up there! :-)

cheers,
linda

Hi there,

I live in Garden Court Plaza, where we have a green roof and a large
pond. There is a family of ducks who live in the pond. One of the
ducks has recently had problems with her wings - we suspect "angel
wing," where the duck cannot fold its wings into its body, and cannot
fly. Some of the residents are worried that the duck will not be able
to fly away for the winter. Does anyone know a local rescue that could
treat the duck? I have heard that there is a procedure that may help.
Also, I don't really know what causes this, but one explanation I have
read online is that it can be caused by humans feeding ducks. (Which
is likely, given where the duck lives.) I would love it if someone
could offer some expert advice about the ducks and their environment.

Thanks for your help!
