Here is an editorial about the growing economic segregation of children. In
our parks and schools, lower middle class and poor children are being harmed by
the pay to play system increasingly used to exclude them.

The damage to excluded children is enormous yet the privileged classes ignore
and deny the terrible damage to the young victims. At risk kids aren't just
excluded from soccer in their local parks, but from all activities converted
into a pay to play system! (What is called a small amount of money is the same
as a trillion dollars to most disadvantaged poor kids.)

A range of normal activities for kids to explore is extremely important for
their development and might mitigate the damages or neglect they may suffer.
Society losses a great deal when kids turn to crime, addiction,
helplessness/depression, etc. when kids aren't allowed to be normal or have
hope.

The segregation itself is the most scarring to excluded youngsters. This
conversion to pay to play for children is shameful, cruel, and unbelievably
stupid!

The stimulus should create jobs for unemployed teens and young adults to play
with the younger kids at Recreation centers, libraries, etc. Libraries, rec
centers, and parks must be free and open to all. Stop economic segregation of
children and stop pay to play NOW! Economic segregation of children will not
stop unless those who can afford pay to play also oppose the system in places
like Clark Park!
