I hope not! Cindy, here is a democracy now interview that you might find very important. It's about the co-opting of environmental groups by the worst polluting corporations. (The report mentioned was in The Nation last week, so you will need to go the archives to read that-it's worth it.) http://www.democracynow.org/2010/3/9/the_real_climategate_conservation_groups_align If you look at the co-opting of these environmental groups, the fake anti-war groups, the fake healthcare reform groups, and the FOCP; you will start seeing all the same patterns! These are fundamental principles of democratic societies that are being side stepped over and over! Pay to play is omnipresent like it is in Clark Park. Defending secrecy, ad hominem, straw men, and spreading misinformation are always part of the package too. The only way to defeat this is to attack the process and stop fighting each betrayal, by our so called leaders, as if it is something new!! If we demand a return to basic time tested civic principles, we can empower the people to win each individual betrayal whether nationally or locally. Conversely, as long as we allow the fascist process to go unchallenged we doom ourselves and coming generations to intractable fascism! If we win back Clark Park by showing that west philly will never again be fooled or divided by pay to play corporate tactics, we will be a model for our brothers and sisters, who expose the environmental groups, which have been co-opted in the same ways. These republican and democrat political leaders will take notice, and stop calling a regressive property tax "a trash fee", and so on. I know that stopping the global war, getting real health reform and saving the planet are all more important than Clark Park! But I strongly believe that those battles are hopeless if we can't take back Clark park and neighborhoods across the country. These corporate jackals (who use civic association leaders as pathetic puppetts) have been destroying communities around the country and around the world, and that's where the first victories must arise!!! Victories for the people and planet will start spreading like California wild fires if we win back control of Clark Park for the right reasons! Thanks for your interest in these important matters.
