Wendy,
I'm glad you mentioned that.
I also add water to the wet food (for my indoor cats, and whenever
I've fed a stray). They like it as much with water added as without.
But I have seen strays drink water from a bowl, and my indoor-outdoor
kitty always did. Must keep those kitties hydrated! Yes, flies are
annoying. Best to get the bowls up and washed immediately.

ROFL!
The sad fact is in all the time we did cat rescues (we don't anymore
and there have not been as many strays around) we would leave food
and water in a safe place for them. Not once did I see any of the
strays go near the water bowl. The way we got water into them was
by giving them some wet food and adding about another can's worth of
water to the food (talking the 3.5 oz cans). The biggest problem
with wet food in summer? FLIES! ugh

So do the breeding mosquitoes know to stay away from all this

Subject: [UC] speaking of heat and hydration...
Regarding animals and trees:
Many of us have indoor-outdoor cats, as well as strays that we
feed. Please make sure to keep lots of *fresh* water available for
them outside, preferably in a nice, shady spot. We also have lots
of wildlife in the neighborhood (including birds)! Consider leaving
a large, shallow bowl of water for them in your back and/or front
yard. And always keep LOTS of fresh water available to your indoor
pets.
*Make sure to change water daily. *And, don't leave your dogs
outside!
Young trees also need not be ignored right now. If you have one
near your house, give it a nice drink, at least 5 gallons per week -
tree tenders on the list, feel free to correct the amount/frequency
here. You could also alternate waterings with your neighbors. This
is a great way to use your recycled/grey water!
Conserve and recycle. :-)
