From the Committee of Seventy web site:

*20. I will seek the* // *enactment of an ordinance requiring all lobbyists, and individuals acting * *as lobbyists, engaged in business with the City, City-related departments, agencies and * *commissions and quasi-City agencies and authorities, to register as lobbyists, identify * *their clients and make public their expenses.*

*10. I will* *promote greater public access to, and participation in, meetings and hearings * *convened by City Council and its committees -- including holding more sessions * *during evening hours and in locations throughout the City and also providing timely * *and complete transcripts on City Council's web site.*

Knowing Mr. West, I believe these two priorities of the Committee of seventy would definitely put them on Mr. West's hit list. Since the committee is interested in ethics and governance there could be many more reasons for West's assault.

West says below: "Stalberg is an odd person to pass judgement on the journalistic worth of working press like Nicole Contosta and myself."

Mr. West, he did not pass judgement on Ms. Contosta. Two people said the facts of Mr West are wrong and did not mention Ms. Contosta. (You tricky devil)

West says: "Nice work if you can get it, Zack. How Nicole and I wish!" Can you send Nicole's exact supporting quote Mr West?

From the text, Mr West has tried to equate the broad recommendations (averages) from some ngo/think tank as if they were law. He appears to be using the ratios in their guidelines to make a case that the Commiittee is avoiding transparency requirements in their operations. His evidence does not address or prove a lack of transparency. It's nonsense. It's the usual fallacious arguing tricks we've come to know so well on this list.

The committee of seventy seems to have openly given its budget numbers to the Weekly Press showing no desire to avoid transparency. They simply assert that Mr. West got his facts wrong on what appears to be an attack, such as destroyed the innocent and excellent group Acorn (proven to have been innocent of all fake journalism charges)

Shirley Sherrod, Michael Moore, ACORN and I have all been assaulted by character assassins posing as journalists. More important than funding ratios for groups looking at corruption and back room dealings is for people to examine these attacks and fake journalism. It's important to recognize this as a power play rather than reporting and it's important to deconstruct the fallacious techniques used by "reporters" and civic association leaders such as Mr. West!

After I published my article, Zack Stalberg found Jesus and decided to bring his own corporate lobby's filings up to date -- as he has long demanded all audits of City agencies should be.

He was right about them, and I am right about him.

Contosta's article shows that by Stalberg's own admission, Seventy's fundraising costs are consistently above the average for all nonprofit associations. Stalberg claims he finally got his administrative costs below the national average last year. Good for him, if true!

Stalberg is an odd person to pass judgement on the journalistic worth of working press like Nicole Contosta and myself. He's a former journalist who now holds down a comfy gig in the neighborhood of $200,000/yr, shilling for the political agenda of Philadelphia's big-business elite. Nice work if you can get it, Zack. How Nicole and I wish!
