Garden Court Community Association announces Block Grant. In order to improve the streets of Garden Court we are proud to announce a $700 grant to one block within the Garden Court boundaries. Neighbors can make their own plan for street trees, front yard plantings, and/or curb and sidewalk repairs. Spruce Hill has a similar program which has led to significant block improvements and an increased sense of community. In return for the grant, block members are expected to make an equal in kind contribution. This can be either goods or volunteer hours. For example, the block could donate topsoil, brick pavers, or perennials in exchange for services like concrete removal. More specific information is available with the application. Volunteer time is calculated at $20.85 an hour.
Here is what you need to do. Download a grant application and instructions from www.gardencourtca.org . Get your block together and submit a plan by Feb 1, 2011. The plan will be reviewed and approved by UCGreen before the application is submitted to Garden Court. If you are working on a plan but it is not complete by Feb. 1, let us know and we will probably be able to give you an extension. We can only give an extension if you let us know you are working on the application By Feb. 1. We will award the grant at the beginning of March. Here are some tips that will make your proposal more likely to be accepted. We want to see good participation from block members. We are requiring a minimum of three households. Has someone on your block taken the Tree Tenders Training or are they willing to take the training? Will the plan benefit the whole block? So call your neighbors, make a plan, and let us know what you want. Spring is just around the corner.
