Subject: Missy the shepherd mix needs new home

An update - Missy the wandering dog has been to the vet to get her
vaccines. She has a clean bill of health, perfect teeth, may be closer
to 7 or 8 years old, and is likely a Shepherd-Collie mix. In an hour
and a half in a crowded waiting room packed with barking dogs, meowing
cats, and unpredictable children, she behaved calmly and sweetly with
everyone.
She is still patiently waiting for a place to call home.

I found [Missy] wandering around Chester and 46th on Saturday, she had
a tag with
her name and address. Through interviewing neighbors and a web search
I found
that a young woman named Vanessa has owned her since birth, had two
dogs, fell
on hard times and had to move away 3 weeks ago, to an apartment where
dogs
aren't allowed. She left Missy with her parents on 50 and Kingsessing
a few
weeks ago asking them to find someone to adopt her. The parents kept
her in the
yard, and she escaped. I talked to Vanessa, and she needs help finding
a home
for Missy.
I'm meeting the parents tonight to get vet records, am taking Missy
for checkup
and vaccines tomorrow, and can host her until she finds a place. But
I've got an
elderly 100 lb dog, and had a second one until he passed away a few
years ago. I
don't want a second dog as Lula goes into old age. And Lula has been
tolerant
because Missy is polite and submissive, but she clearly doesn't want
another dog
in the house.
Can you help? I've got her posted on facebook, and vet friends have
shared the
post, as has Jason the west phila dogwalker. I'd love any other ideas,
if you
know listserves or anywhere else I can try.
She weighs about 40lbs, spayed female shepherd mix. Seems well-
trained, not
familiar with dog cookies or human food, sits, comes, behaves well
with other
dogs. Seems trusting and even-tempered, and like maybe she's used to
being left
places. She seems quite happy with everyone she meets.
