School reform has been covered in extremely dumbed-down and manipulative
sound bites, such that it is impossible to understand relevant issues by
watching the corporate media show.
This short essay covers a great deal that is left out of their deceptive
and dumbed-down presentations about education. It's well worth reading
these 5 pages. (published in truthdig)

(Yesterday, Williams op-ed about vouchers was classic. With his crisis
rhetoric, he ostensibly appealed to an evidence based statistic and gave
an average for public school spending. These are the "damn lies" that
Mark Twain was talking about in reference to the use of statistics. It
would be covered in stat 101.
The difference in funding between schools in different socio-economic
neighborhoods is extreme and using average is misleading. If you look
at other problems in education outcomes, these maps would overlay nicely
with the funding gap maps, as was recently done nationally when
comparing graduation rates between poor inner city districts with
wealthy suburban districts.
Why trust an analysis when a politician screams about a useless
statistic???)
