7 p.m. TONIGHT
Second floor, Elena's Soul
4912 Baltimore Ave.

Councilwoman Blackwell's office has called this meeting to discuss four restaurants looking to have legal sidewalk cafe seating: Gojjo, Cafe Aksum, Dock St. & Elena's Soul. (An separate meeting was held earlier for Vientiane, Desi Village & Atiya Ola's.) All of these businesses ALSO have to go through a City application process, get permission from the Streets Dept., pay for licenses and follow all City regulations - but on top of that, Councilwoman Blackwell must introduce a law to allow them to have outdoor seating. This meeting is for her to see if we want these sidewalk cafes, or not.

As the weather warms up, I'm looking forward to dining on Baltimore Avenue's sidewalks this summer! Plus, I think that having more folks outside puts more "eyes on the street" and makes us all safer. Finally, I'm grateful to these restaurant owners for choosing Baltimore Avenue for their businesses, and us as the customers they want to serve! It's a challenge to run a restaurant in Baltimore Avenue's small storefront spaces, so I hope they can have a bit more space in the good weather!

I hope you'll join me in supporting these restaurants - but whatever your point of view, you can express it tonight.
