Actually Tony wrote me offline and gave me whatever information he had that
the FOCP was not involved and had no knowledge in the chemical spray of
RoundupĀ® during the Clark Park renovation.

That is not to say I should excuse him or Frank. Those of us who are
volunteers in community associations must take the rap, as it were, for
things which we may not have approved during our term but for what happened
while we were involved when community members ask for information.

Apparently, the latest link supports my original link. Even though I have
no nickel in this dime I should think it IS a valid concern for which
community leaders should respond to the community.

It would be nice to say that all we do is work our tails off and plant
flowers and trees, but the other things done in our association's name have
nothing to do with us. Unfortunately, as I said before it's the "nature of
the beast" and one has to take the heat.

Subject: [UC] Roundup - you read it here first!

Below is a link to today's Huffpost article on the important,
recently-published review of the scientific literature on Roundup, its
toxicity and its regulation.

I provided a link to this study and to another on the issue of Roundup and
RoundupReady crops in a previous post to this list (June 16th). This
Huffpost article covers all the major issues discussed in the original study
(for those of you who didn't have time to plow through that pretty dense
report!) and also includes responses from scientists, Monsanto (Roundup's
manufacturer), and governmental agencies charged with assessing the safety
of Roundup and other pesticides. In fact, it supplies all those "details"
about Roundup that Tony had promised to provide to anyone who stopped by the
FOCP table in Clark Park.

In fairness to Tony and to Frank Chance, who vouched for Roundup's
harmlessness, it appears that even the German government was unaware of the
study and its unsettling conclusions! From the Huffpost article: "German
regulators declined to respond in detail for this story because they say
they only learned of the Earth Open Source report last week." In a June 9th
post, Wilma supplied a link to an earlier Huffpost article on the Earth Open
Source study, so, I think you can argue that our listserv readers are better
informed that the German government!
