Around 1pm today I was driving along the 4700 block of Windsor and
noticed the Dept of Health (white truck) spraying a substance up in
the air, towards a wasp/hornet nest hanging from a tree branch
(sidewalk, north side, about 2 houses down from 48th). I talked to
the guy who was spraying and asked about the product. It's called
Lesco Wasp and Hornet Plus. Pretty toxic stuff, harmful to humans and
animals. He said he sprayed a standard bottle's worth, but the mist,
from where I was standing, maybe 30 feet away, looked pretty heavy,
and he must have sprayed for more than than a minute - I didn't see
him set up - and he wasn't that close to the nest itself. He said The
Dept of Health was called to come out and deal with the nest... :
( Crazy, but the guy wasn't even wearing a mask. I could smell the
stuff down the block, and had a headache soon after. Just wanted to
let folks know you may want to avoid walking down that side of the
street, especially if you have a dog, for a day or so. And watch out
for pissed off wasps/hornets - I just read that spraying such nests
isn't wise during the daytime, as the wasps are awake and busy!!
:(
