Way back when the amendments to the US Constitution were in effect, the people of Philadelphia parks did not need a permit to avoid arrest for
" various active sports in the park, such as volleyball, soccer, capture-the-flag, chess, juggling, slackline balancing, frisbee, badminton, or other active sports." The Friends of Clark Park has long functioned as an insular gang advancing the Penn agenda over Philadelphia. They have always refused to allow members of this community to participate in any meaningful discussions about the park, resulting in the privatization of Clark Park to the closed unaccountable "Clark Park Partnership." Now, as every single activity in the entire Philadelphia park system is about to require a permit in order to avoid possible arrest, they offer this absurd calender inviting people to meet with Frank West and Tony Chance. FOCP helped cause this to the entire city and Clark Park was Penn's demonstration project. Notice: They're not inviting the affected Clark Park groups to a public community meeting, but paying members of their insular club only! And we all know that after taking your $25 fee, Tony and Frank can arrogantly ban anyone they wish from whatever secret unannounced meetings they plan! We saw that process for many years leading up to the park redesign and the closed corporate "Clark Park Partnership." The premise of these permit REQUIREMENTS is unacceptable! We, the people, must not accept any of these permit demands nor the continued secret deals of FOCP/SHCA! This is truly the end of the end game for our police state and fascism! Pretending that these multi-generational assemblies of neighbors present some type of safety hazard requiring a permit and fees disregards a century of 1st amendment decisions, as well as Shuttlesworth vs the City of Birmingham. Added to the new picnic permit, these new permit demands on we the people, make virtually anything in the park illegal! The upper classes are told not to worry because there will be unequal enforcement of THE LAW now that the 14th amendment is an ancient myth. Please understand how serious this is! I've known and warned of this day for over 12 years. These park permits have now taken away our right to freely assemble with our neighbors. Chess and juggling can be poetry readings or democracy discussions. Public space permits were never supposed to be anything more than a reservation system for special events, and not a method to arrest people for assembly and community!!!!! Will the people of this neighborhood continue to silently accept a police state and end of the US Constitution? Are you so frightened of these civic association leaders and the privatizers that you will remain silent at this critical moment for future generations???? In merging the old Fairmount Park Commission with the Recreation Department, the City of Philadelphia has formed the new Philadelphia Parks & Recreation Department, which in turn has been formulating new regulations for park use permits. The process for sports and activity permits requires the designation of specific areas within the park for sports activities. As part of our preparation for participation in that process, the Friends of Clark Park authorized a new ad hoc committee which we are calling the "Activity Placement Committee." Members now include the President, Erin Englestad, and FoCP board members Frank Chance and Tony West. We are looking for Friends of Clark Park members to join us on the committee for discussion of where various activities might best be located within Clark Park.
