Tool Library seeks tool mechanic to repair and maintain tools The West Philly Tool Library is a nonprofit community-based tool lending library that loans tools to our individual and organizational members. Our tools have helped members rehab houses, patch roofs, clean up abandoned cemeteries, fix cars, build banjos, and much, much more. We have tools for home repairs and improvements, gardening and outdoor maintenance, and bike and auto repairs. We currently have more than 1100 members and more than 3200 tools. Members pay an annual membership fee between $20 – $50 based on income. Since last year, we have doubled the number of tools we loan per month. We now seek a part-time tool mechanic to maintain and repair tools. *Job Duties* - Repair and maintain electric, gas, and manual tools. With all tools, the job would include helping to determine what tools are safe to use and when it is cost effective to repair. With electric tools, this could include tasks such as replacing brushes on rotors, replacing switches, or repairing cords. With gas tools, this could include tasks such as keeping the tools gassed up with appropriate fuel mixtures, replacing spark plugs and filters, and preparing for off-season storage. With manual tools, the position could include tasks such as sharpening and securing handles. - Working with Tool Tenders committee to determine appropriate tool purchases and repair policies. - Working with and, when necessary, training volunteers. - Maintaining repair area in good order. - Ordering and keeping cost records on replacement parts. - Keeping records on tool repairs status/completions. - Writing user reminders for frequently broken tools - As time permits, assisting Tool Librarians with membership applications, tool check in/out, shelving tools, straightening shelves, and cleanup. - Attend regularly scheduled meetings of the Steering Committee - Other tasks as assigned. *Skills required* - Small tool repair experience. - Basic computer skills. - Enjoy working with members and steering committee. *Compensation* - $15 per hour. - 10 hours per week to start (may change depending on available work.) - Schedule negotiable but needs to be regular and consistent. *How to Apply* Please email a cover letter and resume to the attention of Michael Froehlich at [email protected].
